My
GARDEN MYSTERIES
Please
let me know whatever you know about the plant materials in these
photographs -- a common name, a latin name, how to care for them,
where to plant them and whatever else you may think important.
Please also let me know if you would like to be credited as the
source of the information. I will use your first name, last
name initial
(if you come from a big city) and your country and city of residence,
but will not include contact information unless you would like
that
included.
I will never pass on your email information to anyone.
In advance, thanks so much for any help you may be.

FOLIAGE
PLANT MYSTERIES
These
are all of the plants I think of as being delightful for their
foliage. While they may flower, few of us would have them in
the garden for that quality. |

#6 and 6A Plant Mystery
Hint: In
Montserrat this plant flowers in April or May as you may see in the photograph
to the right. It is tolerant of being planted in a sunny or semi-shady situation
and it is tough when it comes to drought.
Photographed: Photographed in the gardens at our former home
in Montserrat.

#3 Tree Mystery
Photographed: In the (Ortobotanico) Botanical Garden in Naples,
Italy, in 2014.
I
incorrectly identified this tree as a Kuasi, with the following
information. As it turns out it is not a Kuasi Tree at
all. Landin, Amunu, Black Pine, Cipres Pedocarpus
neriifolia
This is a beautiful tree with soft foliage
much like an asparagus fern. If you have the
space it would be a lovely addition to any
garden.
Benefits:
From: The Himalayas
Photographed: In the Botanical Garden in Naples, Italy.
Planting
and Care: As with most trees, I recommend
that you get in touch with the agriculture folks
at your local university or college.

#5 Tree Mystery
This tree really is a true mystery as I can't exactly remember where I took the
photograph. The fruit I photographed in the market, but can't find at the moment.
I'm going to work on this puzzle, but no promises. If anyone knows what this
tree is I would very much appreciate knowing.
We found this fruit for sale just last week at the food market here in Panajachel.
Although it was expensive by local standards, there was no shortage of customers.
We decided to buy some and were enthusiastically shown how to enjoy them. First
open the pods, then chew softly on the seeds to enjoy the white soft material
that encases them. When you've cleaned the seeds, spit them out and get some
more.
Photographed: In Panajachel, Guatemala, in 2012.
Tea recipe for your health: It is said in Panajachel that if
you take the dried seeds from the fruit of this tree and steep them in low boiling
water for about five minutes you will have a tea that will clean your kidneys.
First put the seeds in the sun to dry. Do this for a day
or so bringing them in at night so they don't become humid. You
will know they are dried when they become lighter than when they
were fresh. |

I was told that these tall thin trees
are relatives of the mango, but I can't remember what they are called.
